Magazine envelopes

I've always liked the look of magazine envelopes. A unique and fresh look can be achieved with little work, and it's fun too. First off, find an envelope to use for a template and then hunt for some images in magazines and rip them out carefully. You can use anything--ads, articles, anything that strikes you visually as you thumb through the pages.
Unfold the envelope to create a template; take care when you pull apart the glued seams.

Place template over the back side of the page you plan to use and cut around envelope

Flip the newly cut image right side up and add a piece of masking/washi tape creating area to write address
Cut a piece of paper or use card that coincides with size of template envelope for your insert. Here, I used some scrapbook paper that coordinates with the image.

After you write your note, add it to the new envelope...

...then tape it shut.

As you can see, a variety of looks can be acheived based on the images and note paper chosen, and the recipient will be very pleased to receive the beautiful, unique correspondence!

More evidence we live in a time capsule...check out our bathroom light cover. It reminds me of C3P0's head.

it's hot out here...

but lest we forget...snowmaggedon '09-'10!

serenity now

or at least a watery bathroom scheme. this turquoise is so intense it makes my eyes water--a good thing!

i like neutrals, i swear

as long as there is some good texture involved, i'm for neutrals

a peaceful coexistence

greige and neon grellow can stand being in the same room as one another

my favorite tile scheme

i have dreams of a grellow and carrara bathroom. with a lucite queen anne's chair, zebra print cushion. crystal chandelier. crystal knobs. white vanity (with an actual sit down 'vanity' area)...i love the neon intensity of the glass here. it's pretty punk rock for tile...

yum, yum: peaches

peaches, lovely on their own, but in this cobbler--shaZAam! try it out, so buttery, sugary and delicious:

pre-heat oven 375 degrees

6-8 peaches, peeled and sliced
2tbs butter
1/2c sugar (1c if you don't have the sweetest peaches, this year's are stupendous!)
pinch cinnamon
pinch salt
--place 3-5c sliced peaches in  a skillet over medium heat with 1/2c sugar for 10-15 min. add two tbs butter, cinnamon and pinch of salt. place cooked peaches in 8x12 baking dish with some juice (but not enough to boil over if the dish is shallow; i added all of the juice to a baking dish with 3 inch sides with no subsequent spills). place aluminum foil under pan to catch spills while cooking.

for crust:
1 egg
1c self rising flour
1c sugar
6tbs butter
--mix one egg, flour and sugar till lumpy. melt 6tbs butter. sprinkle lumpy batter over peaches in pan, then pour butter on top

bake for 30 minutes then pour any extra juice over top; this cobbler soars with vanilla ice cream!

velvet elvis

today while designing a couple of bathrooms, my clients proceeded to tell me about their velvet elvis painting.

evidently, said painting has been in gift circulation for almost 30 years amongst their friends. velvet elvis paintings remind me of our drives to visit pigeon forge/dollywood/gatlinburg. other things that conjure memories of these trips from my childhood are:

--dream catchers

--indian blankets

--apple butter

--fudge
